For example: "We build affordable websites for small businesses in Warwickshire get a free quote in 24 hours." Simple. Clear. Specific. That's what converts. 3. There's No Clear Call to Action This is one of the most overlooked problems in small business websites. The visitor has read your page, they're interested and then they have no idea what to do next. No button. No phone number that stands out. No form. Nothing telling them to take the next step. Every single page on your website should have one clear, obvious next action for the visitor to take. Usually that's something like "Get a free quote", "Book a call" or "Send us a message." How to fix it: Go through every page on your site right now and ask yourself if someone reads this page and wants to get in touch, is it completely obvious how to do that? If not, add a button. Make it stand out. Put it somewhere they can't miss it. 4. It Doesn't Work Properly on Mobile Over 60% of web traffic now comes from mobile devices. If your website looks great on a desktop but falls apart on a phone broken layouts, tiny text, buttons that are impossible to tap you're losing the majority of your potential customers. This is especially true for local businesses. When someone searches for a plumber, a florist or a café near them, they're almost always doing it on their phone. If your site doesn't work properly on mobile, they'll click away immediately. How to check: Pull up your website on your own phone right now. Can you read the text easily? Do the buttons work? Is the menu usable? If anything feels awkward or broken it needs fixing. 5. Google Can't Find You You could have the most beautiful website in the world, but if it's not showing up when people search for what you offer on Google it may as well not exist. This is where SEO comes in. SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation, and it's the process of making sure Google understands what your website is about, who it's for and where you're based so it shows your site to the right people at the right time. A lot of small business websites have no SEO at all. No keywords in the right places, no Google Business Profile, no local signals. So even when someone in their area is actively searching for exactly what they offer, they never show up. Where to start: Make sure every page on your website has a clear title and description that includes what you do and where you're based. Claim and complete your Google Business Profile if you haven't already. And start adding new content to your site regularly a blog is one of the best ways to do this.
